Easy Cheesy Baked Ziti

I’m still dealing with a cold, so Dixie helped me work from home yesterday. I think it’s so cute how she always has to be right next to me. I know she enjoyed having some company during the day!

I also got to see what she does all day.. she sleeps until I force her to get up and go outside (around noon). Then she falls asleep outside. I wake her up and bring her inside so she can go straight to the couch to sleep some more. Then around 4:00 she is hyper and full of energy, ready to run/play/eat/play some more. I think I would really love to be a dog.

It was another no run day for me, so I decided I might as well spend all my time cooking something delicious for dinner. I’m all about easy recipes and minimal ingredients, and this baked ziti recipe really is delicious, even if I do use spaghetti sauce from a jar (yes that is a side of cookies you see in the background).

  • 1 lb dry ziti pasta
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb italian sausage
  • 2 (26 oz) jars spaghetti sauce
  • 1.5 cups sour cream
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp garlic salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add ziti and cook 8-10 min.

While ziti is cooking, heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook onion and garlic for about 5 minutes.

Add ground beef and Italian sausage and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer another 5-10 min. Season with basil, oregano, and garlic salt.

Spray a 9×13 baking dish and start layering! Start with 1/2 of the pasta, cover with half of the cheese, sour cream, then 1/2 sauce mixture. Then remaining ziti, remaining sauce, and remaining cheese.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

YUMMMMMMMM. Looking forward to getting back to running today. I’m hoping to do 9-10 miles Saturday, so I’m overdosing on Vitamin C & electrolytes to get this cold out of my system.

What did you have for dinner last night?

What are your weekend running plans?

  1. Yum! I love Italian food.

Lots of running plans this weekend….18 miler on Sunday. And weather’s not looking so hot for it either :-/

  2. Last night for dinner we had baked pasta pretty close to what you made here except I used macaroni noodles for the pasta because that’s what we had on hand. It was pretty quick and easy! And we had homemade garlic bread to go with (girls always have fun helping with the garlic bread)! I have to go to work for a couple hours real early in the morning (boo!) then coming home and going for my run. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
