Neti Pot to the Rescue

This morning I woke up with terrible congestion. I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all and couldn’t find any relief… After going through 6 mucinex tablets, a box of tissues, and way too much nasal spray, the last thing I wanted to do today was run.

I went to the pharmacy after work in search of a miracle and invested $14 in a Neti Pot. I was really skeptical about this… It totally freaked me out. But I was desperate. And oh. My. Goodness. I’ve never felt so much relief. I could breathe again!! If you feel congested and have never tried this, do it. It’s a life changer.

So then I felt like I was ready to attempt a run. I hate missing planned workouts, especially since I had a rest day yesterday. Dixie and I decided to stay close to home and ran the 0.8 mile loop that is my neighborhood. After the first lap I felt great, so I did 3 more and ended up under 8:00 pace for all 3.1 miles (we stopped right at 3.1 and walked the rest of the way). I couldn’t believe I did that after not being able to breathe an hour earlier.

Dixie was with me the whole way, and seemed to pull me a little bit at all the right times. Every time we were about to pass my driveway, she made a bee line for the other side of the road. She hates to stop running, so she avoids our house the best she can. Usually it’s annoying, but I really needed it today.

Thank you Neti Pot!!

Run 3-24-15

Today was the perfect example of how your mind can play major tricks on you. Your body can do so much more than you think it can. I thought I wouldn’t be able to run today but decided to just give it a try anyway and ended up with one of my best 5k times since I started training. Funny how that works.. And now I don’t have to worry about a missed workout!

Run Quote

If you feel sick, I do NOT recommend running. That’s why I chose to stay close to home in case my body decided to tell me to stop. Luckily, it’s just a runny nose right now and I felt strong throughout my whole run.

Is anyone else battling a cold? Any miracle remedies that work for you?

  1. Nice.!! Glad that helped your congestion problems 🙂 I have never heard of that before though..
and good run.! that’s awesome that you have a running buddy. I’m so jealous, I’ve been looking at dogs so I can have a running buddy. but we already have a small dog, maybe I’ll attempt to run with her. lol

  2. No. No no no. I mean, I’m glad it worked for you, but I hate the Neti pot and I won’t try it unless there’s a gun to my head. I think it’s weird and gross and just, no. My boyfriend swears by them and he makes fun of me that I’m so afraid of them, lol. I have a pretty good immune system and luckily, on the rare occasions I do get sick, pills and/or just waiting it out seem to do the trick 🙂

Nice job on your run! It’s always the best feeling to knock out a string of sub-7:00s 🙂

  3. I’ve heard that the Neti Pot is wonderful. I think it really took off a couple years ago after it was talked about on oprah or something. I work in a pharmacy and I remember them selling like crazy. I’ve never tried it but I had the same thoughts as you! Glad it worked!!!
