The Past Few Days

The past few days have been crazy busy/amazing/fun/exhausting so let me catch you up. I had a bridal shower/bachelorette party in Pittsburgh this past weekend, so I made sure to get a good run in on Thursday night since I would be spending most of my day in the car on Friday.

We arrived in Pittsburgh around 7:00 Friday night, just in time to watch the Penguins lose their last game of the season. We were sad, but I was so excited to be with my family that I didn’t dwell on it. We laugh so hard when we’re all together, it’s just the best. I headed over to a friend’s house after hanging out with the fam to meet up with my college girlfriends. We have not all been together in almost FOUR years. We were so excited.

I allowed my cousin Ali to talk me into going out with her “for a little while,” which turned into a long while, but we had a blast. My cousins are like siblings to me. We are super super super close and we also really like to have a good time, so I wasn’t mad when she kept spinning the shot wheel at the bar until we got jager bombs and then I had to make her stop. Looking back, I don’t understand why someone would pay to spin a wheel to take shots you don’t like when you could just order something you like the taste of, but at the time I was really excited about it.

My beautiful cousin Ali!

I was planning on doing a long run Saturday morning. I woke up at 7:30 and had to blink and rub my eyes for about 5 minutes until I realized what was really going on – IT WAS SNOWING. I don’t mean a light flurry here and there… it was full on snowing. In that moment I remembered why I live in North Carolina. The weather forecast said 60’s so I packed shorts a tshirt to run in. I don’t know if it was the snow or the aftermath from the shot wheel the night before, but I rolled over and went back to sleep. Sometimes you drink fireball with your cousin and it’s snowing and you just don’t feel like it.

This was the first long run I have skipped since I started training in February, so I was kind of distraught about it. I got over it once I was reunited with my girlfriends again for Nicole’s bridal shower.

After the bridal shower, I met my family for dinner (and margaritas) then headed back out with the girls for Nicole’s bachelorette party. We took a giant yellow school bus to the bars and it was just the greatest night ever. Sorry about the inappropriate headgear.

The weekend flew by way too fast and before I knew it, it was time to head back to NC bright and early Sunday morning. After a snowy Saturday morning I was pleasantly surprised to see some sunshine on Sunday. This is the cathedral of learning on Pitt’s campus. I will always miss my college days spent in this city.

I had so much fun with my family and girlfriends but was ready to be reunited with Thomas & Dixie. I didn’t run Sunday but went for a nice 5 mile run Monday after work.

After I got home, Thomas and I walked the dogs and played some fetch in the backyard. This is Buster. He lives with Thomas’s parents but sometimes we steal him for weeks at a time because he’s an angel and Dixie LOVES him.

He’s really good at being cute but he’s not so good at catching tennis balls. Case in point:

Where did you go to college? What do you miss most about that city?

Anybody else see snow this weekend!?

  1. I saw that adorable video on Insta – how cute is Buster?! So cute!

You did shots and then were planning to get up the next morning for a long run? LOLOLOL 🙂 You are a strong woman for even attempting that! I think it’s good that it snowed out so that you got to spend more time in bed after that, haha. Maybe I am just projecting because I know I would have spent the morning in bed!

I know, who was I kidding??? I’m kind of glad it was snowing so that could be my “excuse,” but let’s be honest, I wasn’t going to make it more than a few miles anyway 😉

  2. Snow this time of year is not a welcome sight! Yikes! Missed training runs happen, as long as it isn’t every week, I try to just blow past it and move on!

  3. It was SNOWING in Pittsburgh? Oh my! Friday night I ran home from work and I got sleeted on, so that was odd.

It sounds like you had a fun weekend. As much as I complain about being overscheduled when it happens, I love those whirlwind week/weekends. Glad you had a great time!!

I think I will be missing on a lot of my mileage this week, too. My schedule is so crammed plus I have a half on Saturday and I just don’t know how I’m going to fit everything in, I already skipped a run this week. I’m trying not to worry about it but you know how we runners are! So don’t worry, you are not alone!!

  4. Ahh, looks like you had so much fun!

I actually went to school in the same city where I live. So, it’s like college every night. Except I have a kid. Haha.

  5. I actually moved back near my University town about 7 years ago and I love the fact that I can go there anytime! We too, have had a little snow yesterday and expecting some today 🙁 Glad you had such a fun time with your family/friends.

  6. Suzy says:

I love penis hats! And I ADORE the tattoo sleeve on the girl in the pic. I’m so glad you had such a good time!! I can’t remember the last time I went to a bachelorette party! So jealous.

How did I know you would like that??? And her tattoos are amazing. She’s my badass friend. Every girl needs one..

  7. Snow in April? Yikes! I don’t blame you for skipping your run. Looks like you had such a fun weekend!
I actually live in the town where I did my undergrad, and for a couple years it was so fun because a lot of my friends were still around here. Now, everyone has moved all over the country and we’re moving 2000 miles away. I guess that’s what homecomings are for!

  8. I went to school in Flagstaff…and I’m still here, so I guess I loved it! 😉 It’s weird having all your friends move away after school though. I ended up moving to Charlotte for a few months and then came back to Flag for grad school. We ended up having a little bit of snow, but nothing substantial. It was gone the minute the sun came out! I’m hoping that is the end of it! I’m over the snow.

  9. Kerry says:

Oh man! I think I would have freaked if it snowed here. I’m so tired of it. I went to school in Gainesville, Fl and I miss it so much. It was just such a wonderful place.

  10. Looks like you had a super fun weekend! There is nothing wrong with skipping a long-run when there is quality family/friend time at stake.

And, it looks like Buster and I share the same athletic abilities. 😉 He is too cute!
