Throwback Thursday and Weekend Excitement

Last night I did an easy 3 miles @ 8:40 pace. I am hoping to get in 5-6 miles tonight and then I will rest tomorrow because I’ll be traveling most of the day, which leads me to the fact that I am SOOOOOO unbelievably excited about this weekend.

Some of you might know that I went to University of Pittsburgh (class of 2011) but grew up and currently live in North Carolina. I made some of the most amazing girlfriends when I was in college. We talk everyday (thanks iPhone group chat) and it’s pretty impressive how well we have kept up with each other despite being spread out all over the country for the past four years.

When I was a freshman in college I met Nicole, who lived a few doors down from me in my dorm (it was fate). This weekend is her bridal shower and bachelorette party in Pittsburgh and I am going to be reunited with ALL of my college girlfriends for the first time since 2011. I have seen them here and there over the past four years, but we haven’t all been together in one place since we graduated. We are freaking out with excitement.  Here are a few throwback Thursday pictures for you.

Another thing I am excited about: Pittsburgh running. There are a lot of hills, but I have the best memories of running in Pittsburgh. Also, it is home to The Great Race, which actually might be the greatest race ever. It’s a point-to-point 10k that is about 90% downhill and runs right through my beloved Pitt campus and downtown Pittsburgh. It’s glorious.

I’m hoping to get a long run in on Saturday (the actual length witll depend on how much fun we have Friday night) before the bridal shower and bachelorette fun begins. My half marathon is just three weeks away and I’m starting to get super nervous. I’ve done all of my long runs (11 miles being the longest so far), but I feel like I really need to work hard the next few weeks, even if I am in the midst of the greatest reunion of my adult life.

What is your favorite city that you have ever run in (other than where you currently live)?

What are you excited about this weekend?

  1. Aww, have fun this weekend!! I love reuniting with all of my high school and college girlfriends 🙂

One of my favorite cities to run in is Las Vegas. I love running in Vegas on the strip in the morning. It’s usually fairly empty and so cool to the see the city during the day. I also love to run in the tiny town of Cheboygan, Michigan, where my parents have a lake house. It’s very rural and quiet, and you can literally run in the middle of the road, but it’s absolutely beautiful. Oh man, I have one more – it’s too hard for me to choose just one! My company has an office in Boulder, CO and the running there is spectacular. I get to run there when I’m on work trips a couple of times a year 🙂

No huge plans this weekend, but possibly a trip to the zoo with one of my best friends and her son who is the same age as my little guy 🙂

All of those places sound awesome!! I’ve never been to Vegas.. that would be a fun place to run when it isn’t so hot. Boulder would be amazing!

  2. Holy smiley faces! I just re-read my comment and I used one every paragraph, guess I’m in a smiley kind of mood today.

  3. How fun.!! sounds like you’re going to have a great weekend.! I love seeing old friends. well I only have one, haha, so I like seeing her. I definitely regret not having the “college experience”.
and this weekend.. I’m just excited to have a day off with my daughter.! I want to kiss her face all day long. (sorry, crazy mom moment.ha)

  4. SO jealous. I graduated in 2009 and we have YET to get my whole college house back together. We’re finally reuniting in late June, and I am beyond pumped!

To your question, while I’m not a huge runner (per-se), I can say that I love to go on runs as a tourist. I have some wonderful memories of running through Italy checking out the sites or even checking out neighborhoods any time I’ve moved. It’s a great way to get in your fitness, while also finding out new areas to love!

Have too much fun this weekend. 🙂

I agree that running is one of the best ways to see a new city! Italy!? That sounds like the best run ever…

  5. Have so much fun this weekend! College friends are the best – and weddings are the best because that’s when everyone gets back together! I get to see one of my closest friends for the first time this weekend since she moved away – just in time before my husband and I move!
My favorite city ever to run in was Reutlingen, Germany, where I studied abroad for a semester. The Germans love running/walking/being outside, so the city had so many parks with beautiful trails.

That’s so nice you’ll get to see your friend before you move. We are actually going to have quite a few reunions this years because of weddings! Running in Germany sounds amazing…

  6. Aw so fun! I am planning a reunion trip with my best friend too! I haven’t seen her in almost two years so I am stoked! Have so much fun!

I love running at my parents place in la. It just holds such great memories for me, I love running around their neighborhood.

This sounds so fun! I’m pretty excited for this weekend too. I’m going out on my last trip with my friends before I make the move to Kansas. I’m planning on having an awesome time. I’m sure you will too!!
