Beach Runs

This week we are on vacation in Nags Head, NC. I’ve gotten some good running in the last two days… I love getting up early on vacation and running on the flat road that runs along the beach. Monday was a nice long 8 miles and Tuesday was a shorter, slightly slower 4 miler.

I have never been a morning runner, or a morning person for that matter, but on vacation it’s so easy for me to wake up at 7 am and have energy for a run.

Don’t forget to enter my Tiux compression socks giveaway on Instagram (@maddiefager)! You can tag up to 10 friends for 10 entries. The winner will be announced Saturday and will get to choose the color combo of their choice: blue/yellow, pink/yellow or black/yellow. Good luck!!

Do you run on vacation?

Are you a sand runner or do you stick to the roads?

SO jealous of your beach vacation! That sounds absolutely incredible right about now. I love running down by the water, but not so much on sad! Running in the mornings on vacation is incredible – so stress free, not trying to squeeze a run in before work, it’s absolutely the best! Have so much fun enjoying the beach and please get some tan for me! : )

  2. I’m definitely a morning runner – it just feels so good to get it done first thing. Running on sand is so hard and I don’t like sand getting stuck in my shoes, so I would run on the roads. Enjoy your time at the beach!

  3. Ugh. I want to be on vacation! I would be running along the beach too! I’m definitely not a sand runner. Having to run in the snow during the winter is enough for me!

  4. I love running on vacation! Especially when its somewhere nice like at the beach:) Have a great trip!

I love running on vacation. I bring my running shoes wherever I go. I’m definitely a road and trail runner though, sand, not so much.

  6. Have a GREAT trip! A beach vacation sounds amazing right now, enjoy every minute!

You already know I am also NOT a morning runner. I would love to try running in sand – it sounds like a kick-butt workout – but I just know that I would literally never get all of the sand out of my shoes ever again.

  7. I don’t go to the beach nearly enough to be a sand runner. But I plan to next time I go.! Next time I go to the beach will probably be for my full marathon.! eek. : 0
way to get those runs in even on vacation girl.!!

Running on sand is crazy hard! I do love keeping up with my running while on vacation though. The change of scenery can be so nice, especially with a fantastic beach view! Great job sticking with it, lady!

  9. Vacation running is my favorite running!!!
I primarily stick to the roads with just a bit of running on the actual beach. If I spend too much time running on the sand, I’ll be so sore. My body isn’t used to it!

  10. WOOOOO Nags Head Have funn!

  11. I hope you guys are enjoying your vacation!

I try to run on vacation, but it doesn’t always happen. So props to you for keeping up with it.

And, no sand running here. I’ve been saying I want to try it, but I foresee the sand just irritating me. 😉

ROADS. Period. Amen. And I abhor mornings. I can barely see straight long enough to brew coffee let alone go for a run, but I did at 6am this morning: 8 miles. I barely remember it. I’m so traumatized.

  13. I love to run on the beach! It’s definitely tougher than the sidewalk but it will give your legs a great workout 🙂

  14. Yay, enjoy every day of vacation to the fullest!

I prefer running on the roads next to the sand because it’s a million times easier! haha. I am always so impressed when I see people running on the sand. I’ve thought about running down near the water where the sand is more packed but I just keep imagining the sand clinging to my shoes like mud. I think if the wet sand caked on it could make the shoes really heavy. I’m sure I’m overthinking this whole thing 🙂

  15. Roads roads roads. I ran a portion of a 5k on sand before and I wanted to die. Talk about feeling the burn! And when there isn’t sand…..I try to avoid slush on the roads because it’s very comparable.
    Enjoy your vacation!!

I love running on vacation. Awesome job getting those runs in! I don’t love the sand though – I stick to the roads 🙂

  17. I love your bright yellow shoes!! I stick to the pavement at the beach–running on the sand sounds like a great idea in theory but is a little too challenging/aggravating for me!

  18. Charissa says:

Great runs, Maddie! I tried running on the sand once and it was soooo hard. I quickly decided to take my run to the roads 😀 Running on sand is like added resistance for your legs.

  19. I actually think I’m a better runner on vacation because I love running in new places, and if I’m vacationing WITH people, there’s a sense of “I told all these people I was running in the morning, so now I have to” lol!

  20. Vacation running is sometimes really hard depending on where you are but it’s usually so fun especially if you are somewhere new. The sand is great, but road running is usually what I prefer. Have fun at the beach!

  21. I love running while on vacation and always start my day with a run. I think it’s the combination of free time and flexibility. Plus, running first thing gives me extra energy for what the rest of the day has in store.

When I was in Mexico I ran on the beach almost every day. Sand definitely makes for a good workout! Glad you are having a great time on your trip and are finding time to run!
