Weekend Recap!

Ahhhhh Monday again. Why are the weekends flying by so fast? We have been super busy lately, so that might have something to do with it.

Big news… my parents got a PUPPY!! They have been searching for the perfect rescue for two years now since our sweet yellow lab Sally passed away, and they finally found this little angel. Her name is Greta and she is a 4 month old cocker spaniel mix, but she looks absolutely nothing like a cocker spaniel. Dixie loooooves her and so do we! We stopped at my parents house to play with the puppy for a little while after we got off work on Friday.

After getting some quality puppy time in, we headed over to Greensboro because my mom had one of her paintings display at an art gallery there. Thomas and I and our friends Stephanie and Scott went to support her and check out all of the other great artwork there. She is so talented… I wish I had even an ounce of her artistic ability!

Art Gallery

We had so much fun doing something out of the ordinary. This was definitely Thomas’s first art gallery experience but he really enjoyed it!

Afterwards we grabbed some dinner at Crafted in Greensboro. I’m not going to lie, none of us were impressed by this restaurant. The food was bite sized, way overpriced, and didn’t taste very good, but we got good drinks and enjoyed each other’s company!

I was still hungry after my 4 inch spring roll that I had for dinner, so we all decided froyo was necessary. I promise I didn’t just get a bowl of toppings and that there is actually frozen yogurt under there…

Saturday = long run day! I woke up around 8:00 (wayyyy too late) and drove to a place I like to run in Winston-Salem. There is nowhere to run long distances around my house unless you want to do 15 laps around my neighborhood, which can get pretty boring, so I drive a little ways to do my longer runs.

It was hot and I started too late, but I managed to get in 6.6 miles before I just had to stop for some water. I was really overheated and feeling kind of weak so I ate a gel and hydrated during my drive home. As soon as I got home I leashed Dixie up and we did 2.4 miles around the neighborhood to make it 9 miles even at somewhere around 9:15-9:20 pace. Thomas even joined us for our last lap after he finished his boxing workout.

Saturday afternoon we headed up to the mountains for a couples shower that Thomas’s family was throwing for us. I seriously feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing people that want to celebrate our marriage with us. Thomas’s aunts did a great job putting together a fun “I do BBQ” for us! We even played the newlywed game with our parents and it was hilarious.

The food was delicious and it was just so fun to be surrounded by so much love. We feel so lucky that we have two amazing families that are filled with really great people. Not to mention our friends who traveled to make the day even more special for us. We just have been feeling SO blessed lately.

After the shower we headed up to Blowing Rock with the puppies.

Our friends Morgan and Sam just bought a house in Blowing Rock so we went to check it out and then went downtown for a few drinks.

On Sunday we met Morgan and Sam for brunch and then took the puppies for a fun little hike. The total hike was about 3 miles, but they made quite a few swimming stops along the way.

To conclude our weekend we had to get some ice cream, of course. Kilwin’s in Blowing Rock, NC has the BEST waffle cones and ice cream!

Here is my running recap from last week. Not the best week, but I’m only 3 weeks into training and I’m ahead on my long run, so I’m not stressing about it!

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 6 miles @ 8:50 pace
Wednesday: Not my day
Thursday: 5 miles @ 8:55 pace
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 9 miles @ 9:15 pace
Sunday: Cross training hike!
Total: 20 miles

Tomorrow I will be giving away a pair of JayBird Bluebird X wireless headphones, so be sure to stop by!!

What is one fun thing you did this weekend??

  1. Sounds like a fun weekend! Ice cream is the best way to end it too, right? Definitely no reason to stress about mileage at this point in your training, you’ll not see any difference from one week of lower miles. Have a great week and I hope you can beat the heat a bit this week! (that really wasn’t all supposed to rhyme)! Happy Monday!

Glad you had a good long run and got a lot of training in.

I hate going out somewhere and it’s overpriced or the food is bad… but hooray for getting to spend time with fun people because that makes it bearable. You had some really delicious looking desserts this weekend too- we have a Kilwin’s here and it’s amazing but quite pricey. I’ve been to Blowing Rock *and* Winston Salem since my grandparents live near there.

  3. Ohmygosh Kilwins!! We have one here but I never go for some reason. I love the idea of an “I do BBQ” so cute!

    • You know what is so weird is we have one close by in Winston-Salem that we NEVER go to, but whenever we are in Blowing Rock we always have to stop! I guess it’s just something about that particular one that draws us in! The smell is absolutely amazing..

  4. Sounds like a fun weekend! I hate when restaurants serve really small portions. fro-yo sounds like the perfect solution to that problem though!

  5. Jamie says:

Sounds like such a fun weekend! And kudos to you to finishing up your long run. The humidity is absolutely unavoidable up here… Dare I say I’m starting to miss the fall/late spring morning runs ?!

  6. Ariana says:

What a fun weekend! Cafe Europa was the only restaurant in Greensboro that my husband & I really loved and sometimes I still miss it despite the hundreds of awesome restaurants here in Columbus. I’m not even sure if it’s still there anymore?!?! Great job on training this week and I LOVE your parents new pup – so cute!

    • Maddie says:

It’s still there! I love that place. We don’t get over to Greensboro too often but that is one of our favorite places to go when we do!

  7. YAY for the puppy! How adorable! I’m so happy that you rescued rather than going to a breeder..as a volunteer at the humane society that means a lot to me! Also, great job getting in your runs! The humidity is miserable 🙁 Hope you have a great week!

  8. Oh my goodness that puppy!! Too cute. Definitely does NOT look like a Cocker Spaniel though! I would have never guessed!

  9. Melanie says:

Kilwin’s is the best!! So jealous of that mountain trip. Boone and Blowing Rock are my favs. I’m not so impressed with Crafted either. I’ve heard mixed reviews too about it. If I’m going out to eat, I wanna eat. lol Looks like you had a great weekend!

    • Maddie says:

It’s a really cool atmosphere and a unique restaurant, but the food just wasn’t very good. And we all left hungry, which is never a good sign!!

  10. What a great weekend!!!
Greta is adorable, a shower, hike with the pups, and ice cream…perfect!!!!

  11. Your weekend looks so fun! Your parents’ new puppy is too precious – what a sweetie! Rescues are the absolute sweetest dogs – my family has always rescued and Charlie of course is a rescue.

  12. What a great weekend! We closed ours with big bowls of ice cream too! Way to rock your long run!

  13. Oh my goodness you had such a great weekend! In comparison I feel like a total bum who did absolutely nothing, haha. Congrats to your mom having her painting shown at the gallery, that is so fantastic! AND congrats to her (and your dad) on the cute new puppy! 🙂

I looooove Kilwins ice cream <3!

  14. Greta is sooooo beautiful!!! We have cats, and I love them more than anything in the world, but I also wish we had dogs so we could take them on fun hikes and swimming in streams like your babies get to do. You just can’t do that with cats. (But I love them and they are my babies!) Your mom is so talented. Artists who draw or paint, I just don’t understand it. It’s something I have zero capabilities of doing so I am in awe of anyone who can do that.

  15. Ilka says:

What a fun weekend you had! I love the pics of the puppies enjoying the water. Precious!

  16. Sounds like an awesome weekend! And, seriously could those puppies be any cuter?! You really need to put a disclaimer out there when the cuteness level of blog posts exceeds the normal amount. 😉

  17. Caitlin says:

So glad me and Ben weren’t the only ones to be highly unimpressed with Crafted! Much fonder of FREE chips, queso, and big ole’ portions 🙂

  18. Jason says:

    Greta is SO cute!!!

  19. I guess finding useful, reliable information on the internet isn’t hopeless after all.
