My Final Weekend Recap as a Single Lady

I’m going into my 4th week of dealing with this super annoying IT band injury, but I’ve definitely seen some progress in the past 10 days or so. I managed 6 miles of running this week (on 5 different days) and a lot of cross training.

My daily workouts pretty much are going like this…. 15-20 minutes on the stair stepper or elliptical, then a test run on the treadmill. These runs have usually lasted around 1-1.5 miles. I stop as soon as I feel pain in my knee. It comes on really suddenly and leaves just as quickly as soon as I stop running. Afterwards I either get back on the elliptical/stair stepper or switch over to strength training: abs, arms, squats/lunges, clamshells and bridges.

I’m kind of over being frustrated. There is no good that will come out of pouting, so I just run as much as I can and it gets better a little bit each day. I have 11 weeks until the Richmond marathon that I’ve already registered for. If I can’t jump back into real training soon I’m going to start losing hope. This was such a huge goal for me and I was so excited to train for it, but now it’s become a source of stress and frustration in my life, which is never what I imagined would happen.

BUT… let me just tell you that there is not an OUNCE of sadness/bad energy coming from this girl this week, because I’M GETTING MARRIED ON SUNDAY. I just started to cry when I wrote that (happy tears of course). I can’t even believe how lucky I am that I get to marry this man. He’s by far the best thing that has ever happened to me and I know everyone says they get to marry their best friend, and maybe they really mean that, but REALLY, he’s my best friend.

We spent the weekend finishing up some last minute things for the wedding. My parents helped us out with our last minute crafts and then they took us out to dinner since it was my last weekend as a “Fager.” We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Smitty’s in Kernersville. Unfortunately Smitty’s does not have the best lighting, but they do have the best beer, onion rings, and ranch.

Afterwards I mentioned that I wanted froyo (by mentioned I mean I told everyone we were going to froyo) and they all politely told me they didn’t want anything, but that they would take me. Well, four bowls of froyo later everyone was happy and full. You can’t GO to froyo and just not get anything. Not possible.

We went to bed super early on Saturday because we are old (I’ll be 26 on the 10th, ahhhh) and had lots of energy for the gym on Sunday. Dixie wanted to sleep in.. She was exhausted from playing with Greta the day before.

I stayed off the treadmill completely and did an interval workout on the elliptical instead. 10 min warm up, 3 min hard/3 min rest on 8 resistance, 3 min hard/3 min rest on 7 resistance, 3 min hard/3 min rest on 8 resistance, 15 min cool down.

Sunday night we both had a fantasy football draft to attend to. I have a fantasy league with my cousins and this was the first year an “outsider” was let in by marriage, even though we aren’t officially married yet. Thomas was pretty excited, but we have to stay in different rooms and not speak to each other during the draft because we both take it pretty seriously. It ended peacefully and we are both pretty happy with our teams. The first true test of marriage will be when we play each other week 2 (the weekend we get back from our honeymoon). Should be interesting!

Well, now it’s time to take on this week and hopefully it will FLY by and then come to a screeching halt on Friday afternoon so it can slow down and we can enjoy the most amazing weekend of our lives!!

  1. My husband’s fantasy draft with all of our old friends was last night. It was hilarious listening to them!
    YAY for your last single week! Our last single week was filled with moving, so I don’t think I even registered it as such!

  2. Awwwww how exciting! I bet it will be so hard to fall asleep every night this week. It’s like Christmas is coming except even better 🙂

    I skipped out on fantasy football this year. I loooooooove football but fantasy stresses me out so much. I’m constantly checking how my FF team is doing and end up too distracted to enjoy watching the Dolphins play! Since we are first time season ticket holders this year I decided I want to enjoy every minute that we spend at the games!

      Sleep is definitely hard to come by!! Lots to think about. That’s so awesome you got season tickets!! When I lived in Pittsburgh I got spoiled because my aunt and uncle had tickets but didn’t go to the games. There is nothing better than an NFL game!!

  3. Enjoy this week! It is so easy to stress about little things but just enjoy it all and remember that regardless of what happens, you still get to marry your best friend! I’ll be thinking about you this week! I love your take on your IT situation. You’re doing everything right, it’ll all work out!

      I’m trying to keep that in mind! I definitely get worked up over little details even thought they won’t even matter on the wedding day…

    Ah I can’t believe wedding weekend is here already! So exciting! I’m glad you have such a positive mentality about your IT band… although potentially disappointing, I so respect you for being able to listen to your body – totally not the easiest! And my boyfriend and I both have fantasy teams… and I usually win, so I’m no longer allowed to play in his league with fraternity brothers… they’re just jealous 🙂

    Congrats on another week of progress – it all counts!
    My favourite form of cross-training cardio is definitely the elliptical, but I have been gravitating towards the stationary bike lately…
    I am not part of a fantasy draft, but I was with my boyfriend when he picked his team on Friday night. Let’s just say I fell asleep almost 2 hours earlier than him. Who knew that it took so long to pick your team?!

      Aww thanks she knows she’s cute and can get whatever she wants! Every year I’m like “I really don’t remember this taking so long…” I always think it’s an hour and 2 or 3 later I’m still sitting there!

  6. Ahhh I can’t believe you’re getting married!! I hope you have a great week and that you have the best day EVER! Remember, it will go by SO FAST so make sure you stop and smell the roses every once in a while and savor the moments!

    I really like to swim for cross training, but it’s just hard to get to the pool since the branch of my gym that has one is clear across town and has weird hours. But I actually like the elliptical – I couldn’t do it every day, but I find it to be a really good workout.

    I’m glad you’re not letting injury stress get in the way of your special week. I know it would suck, but does the Richmond Marathon have a half marathon option that you could change to? If so, it might be worth looking into – much less pressure in your training, more time to get in decent shape, and even though it’s not the same at least you still get to run!

    For cross training, I really like BodyPump classes but I also like the Arc Trainer. It’s much harder than the elliptical and hits the hamstrings and glutes more than running. I’m glad you got some workouts in and hooray for getting married! Don’t let the injury get in the way of your celebration :).

    I get bored on the elliptical and would rather do a spin class or swim. Nice job keeping up with your workouts and being smart about recovery!

    You’re doing a great job at keeping up your cardio and fitness! I have no doubt that your knee will heal quickly and you’ll be able to jump back into running.   10. How exciting that your wedding is so close! I can’t wait to see pictures and hear your recap..I know youll make a gorgeous bride. I used to play fantasy football and got REALLY into I couldn’t sleep and was super worried all the time about my players and everything. Finally I had to stop just because I couldn’t enjoy it! Luckily Dan and I cheer for all the same teams, but he’s not really that into sports (besides hockey) and I’m into every sport (except hockey) so it’s interesting!

      I was like that last year… I was in 3 leagues and ran a knockout league and it was just too stressful!! It took all the fun out of it. This year I am just doing one so I don’t get so worked up!

  13. You are doing an amazing job at keeping up your endurance and strength with this injury – running will come back to you no problem once you’re fully healed! Enjoy this weekend and savor it – I feel like I blinked and my wedding was over.
    Hiking is my favorite cross-training cardio. I also like outdoor cycling, but the indoor bike is so boring for me.

  17. So exciting!!!! Sunday will be here before you know it and you will officially be a married woman!! Derek and I like the same sports teams, which sometimes takes the “fun” out of it. We like to cheer together, but sometimes when we are watching games that we don’t really care about, we choose opposing teams just to compete:)

  19. Wow your wedding is coming so fast. The last week before your wedding goes by so fast! Mine last year was such a blur. Maybe resting from running on your honeymoon will help your injury.
